Custom Sheet Metal Servo Drive Enclosure

Servo drive enclosures serve as protective housings for motion control equipment. In addition to providing structural protection, their surface finish and appearance must meet the customer's specific product design requirements.

For this project, Longwang was responsible for manufacturing a custom sheet metal servo drive enclosure with different finishing requirements for its internal and external surfaces.The customer's requirements involved three important details.

First, the internal cavity had to remain completely free of powder coating. This meant that the coating process needed to prevent powder from entering or adhering to the enclosure's interior.

Second, the exterior required a glitter-effect powder coating rather than a conventional solid-color finish. The coating needed to provide a consistent decorative appearance across the visible surfaces.

Finally, the enclosure required two-color silk screen printing. Since the two colors had to be applied separately, the printing process required careful positioning and registration to maintain the intended graphic layout.

These requirements made the project more demanding than standard sheet metal enclosure fabrication. The challenge was to coordinate forming, selective coating, and multi-color printing while maintaining the appearance and functional requirements of the finished enclosure.

Quality Control

For this servo drive enclosure project, quality control focused on the three most critical requirements: internal coating protection, external powder coating appearance, and two-color printing accuracy.

Internal Surface Inspection

The internal cavity was checked to verify that no powder coating remained on the designated coating-free surfaces. Particular attention was given to corners, openings, edges, and areas where powder could accumulate.

External Powder Coating Inspection

The exterior finish was visually inspected for coating coverage, consistency of the glitter effect, and visible surface defects.

Silk Screen Printing Inspection

The two printed colors were checked for positioning accuracy, registration, graphic clarity, and surface appearance.

Final Appearance Inspection

A final inspection was conducted to assess the overall appearance of the enclosure and confirm that the different manufacturing and finishing processes met the specified requirements.
